This may be a bit late to announce, but there will be an informal media lunch on Monday, June 4 2007 with GOODYEAR. There are five slots reserved for bloggers who wish to attend this event. You need to have a blog and be passionate about cars.

You will be among the auto media enthusiasts also. If you are interested, please leave a comment with your name and contact info. If you do not wish to send in your contact details in the comments section of this post, you may email it to movement (at) blogandsoul (dot) net.

At the end of the day, when our children leave the bosom of home to face the world, the least we could do is make sure they are equipped with the best tools to face the world with a smile.

I’m putting together a series of workshops on helping bloggers critique better. You see, I had a nice talk with Lori and Noemi about two weeks ago as well as a hearty conversation with Anton back in the Philippine Blog Awards and we talked about how different it is to be called a “blogger” versus a “writer.” For instance, travel blogging is different from travel writing. The former may be an expository of events with some pictures, writing down a mix of historical reference, and then maybe a sweet opinion such as “I really enjoyed the trip.”

Travel writing on the other hand is completely different. A travel writer uses “traveling” as a transformational journey to discover oneself. Travel writers don’t really use cameras. They use journals to record their thoughts and epiphanies.

The same may be true then. Food blogger or food writer? Technology blogger or technology writer?

Stay tuned :)

Bloggers were able to join the roster of media and as well as special guests for the unveiling of the “Gloria Team Pilipinas” campaign for Team Pilipinas. Set to travel and make the Philippines known throughout the world as a rising basketball haven in Asia, Nike and Team Pilipinas launched the “Believer” campaign as proof of their commitment to showing off the best of what we have in the country.

It is advocacies such as these that bring me a warm, fuzzy feeling all over. If we all became inspired and committed ourselves to our own personal missions, the result will end up in a full fledged campaign of promoting the good things about the Philippines and less complaining about what this country is doing wrong.

Nike will sponsor Team Pilipinas’ training with their FIT Dry sweat-wicking fabric and Pro compression training apparel. Team Pilipinas also has access to Nike’s global network of sports experts for consultation on youth development, grassroots programs and specialized training.

Team Pilipinas is Jimmy Alapag, Mark Caguioa, Tony dela Cruz, JayJay Helterbrand, Don Don Hontiveros, Ranidel de Ocampo, Mic Pennisi, Danny Seigle, Kerby Raymundo, Ren-Ren Ritualo, Asi Taulava, and Enrico Villanueva. The team is led by Coach Chot Chot Reyes.

The Blog and Soul Movement has a tagline.

Over the weekend I realized the power of viral marketing over the web. With blogs, forums, podcasts and other real world connectivity synchronizers like SMS campaigns, the web can be a powerful albeit scary place to spread all sorts of information.

“The Internet” falls under several “amoral” real world machinations such as “liquor” and “firearms.” They are neither good nor bad, and it all depends on the user to turn these instruments into accomplices for doing goodness or evil. I’d like to think that the Blog and Soul Movement is a means to help achieve great things - a “bridge” of some sort to help bloggers become better bloggers and critics. Blogs are powerful. One post can actually make difference, I realized. And if bloggers become more and more credible in their niches, they can become prime movers of society.

If you blog it they will come.

This is a play with words with a famous quote back in the late 80’s from the movie Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner.

Stellify.net did a short commentary about how new media is slowly coming into the mainstream tide through various achievements of bloggers around the Philippines. She mentions Blog and Soul in particular:

…the movement aims to transform blogging into a reputable arm of Philippine media. From the looks of it, Blog and Soul is finding ways to accommodate bloggers so they can cover events traditional media would have effortless access to.

By access I mean press IDs and and an actual audience during the act of reportage. Not all bloggers can get into certain events and not all bloggers can be considered reliable sources of information simply because they aren’t considered “the media”.

The Rocked Radio show has invited Blog and Soul to participate in their event this coming May 19 2007. See poster for details.

A series of gigs entitled KEEP YOUR PROMISES will be launched on Saturday May 19. These are small gatherings of young voters (disenfranchised voters included) to have their voices heard. That we demand the fulfillment of promises made by candidates during the elections. Rock Ed Philippines

But how can bloggers get involved? The free concert will also feature a short program on a call to keeping promises for the candidates who will win the 2007 senatorial elections. Bloggers who write about the event and their thoughts on “keeping promises” will be featured on the Rock Ed Radio blog and will be talked about during the radio show that airs on Sundays, at 7:00PM at NU 107 FM. Isn’t this a good way to build traffic? ;)

All you need to do is link back to this post with your thoughts on the event.

Blog and Soul is not a political movement, but it does advocate clean elections, thus the call for keeping promises. Rocked Philippines is also not politically affiliated. To enter this free concert, all you need to do is send in a donation of goods or any amount of cash for vaccines.
